CRAWLING THROUGH SNOW!

A trip to Denbigh, North Wales on Wednesday 29 October reminded us all what a short season the Welsh Autumn is, Summer has gone and Winter is well on its way. The weather didn't stop the crowd though. The launch of John Sam Jones' autobiographical novel Crawling Through Thorns produced a huge turnout.

Friends from many diferent aspects of John's varied and interesting career arrived to chat, catch up and celebrate the publication of this hugely important book.

Finally the gallery was packed with faces from the four decades that the book spans. A wonderfull evening ensued - great readings and discussion, cheese and wine and much conversation accompanied by wonderful music from harpist Ann Wiliams. John was kep very busy with questions, comnets and parise from the audience...and a very long queue for book signings afterwards. Many thanks go to Bethan Hughes of Denbighshire Libraries and her staff for hosting the event.

The summer kicked off with the publication of Coalfaces, the book already having become an award winner. Photographers Anne-Marie Schone and Tina Carr, along with designer Lucy Llewellyn, picked up the Parisian PX3 prize for Art Book cover design.

Parthian authors were popping up all over the place, Gee Williams at the Edinburgh Festival, Ifor Thomas in Cardigan, John Sam Jones, Katie Gramich, David Lloyd, Jon Dressel, Laura Wainwright and Tomos Owen all read at the NASSWCH conference in Toronto, Canada and the Parthian Posse braved the weather to support Matthew David Scott at the Green Man Festival.

Parthian's Autumn list is dominated by another photgraphic Art Book: the work of internationally acclaimed New York Artist Shimon Attie is featuring in an exhibition in the National Museum, Cardiff. November sees the long-awaited publication of his volume The Attraction of Onlookers - Aberfan: anatomy of a Welsh village

Other leading titles include the first English translation of Die Brücke über den Fluss by Johannes Gramich, translated as The Bridge Over the River, and John Sam Jones' fictionalised biography Crawling Through Thorns. For a full list of Autumn publications please visit our new titles page.

The continuing international outlook of Parthian is evident in our Autumn programme of events. This reflects our list which includes translations from German, Catalan and Basque.

Other news includes two of our Spring Titles gaining renewed media interest and critical acclaim for the dramatic work of Parthian author Matthew David Scott.

Saturday 4 October Warriors Tale featured as the lead review in the Western Mailmagazine ...it's a biography worthy of both writer and subject and Jim Bowen featured in the author's notes. A profile of Jim is also due to apear in Pembrokeshire Life, to view the article , click here.

The people of Neath turned out in force for an afternoon of tea, Welsh cakes and talking at Neath Library. George Brinley Evans, author of Boys of Gold and Where the Flying Fishes Play talked to Richard Davies about Voices of the Children, a book written by the late George Ewart Evans.
