.Exiles – Jacinta Bell

"For Exile hath more terror in his look, Much more than death"

Claire is a young geologist working in Tunisia. Her partner sends her postcards from a damp, cold flat in London. John is Irish and the wrong religion. He is missing the way she messed up his life. She writes back, Tunisia is warm, full of the bright colours of the desert. The smell of rain on the dry earth. Claire doesn't mention Ali. She doesn't think John would understand.

A dynamic novel, fiercely contemporary, romantic, happy and sad.

Jacinta Bell has been writing Exiles for as long as she wants to remember. Her story, "Tilting at Windmills", was a winner of the Rhys Davies Prize. This is her first novel.

"An impressive debut novel" Gair Rhydd

"All authors strive to engage readers in the lives of their characters, but some do it more effectively than others. They have to give a damn about them themselves before anyone else will. By this score the flawed heroine of Exiles must be close to the author's heart." The Big Issue Cymru

"An impressive first novel which confronts large issues." Sićn James
